We do now give the option to have the operation under ‘conscious sedation’ which can be helpful for the most nervous/ phobic patients. This is similar to being knocked out under General anaesthesia but without the risks and is very much less expensive than the GA option at a hospital. There is however absolutely no need for this option for the vast majority of men as the local anaesthetic alone gives an experience that is either pain-free or with initial minimal discomfort when the anaesthetic is given. The total cost for NSV under conscious sedation is £880.

- A hyfrecator (sophisticated instrument using electrical energy) is used to cut and to cauterise during the procedure.
- A single small incision in the midline of the scrotum is made instead of two larger incisions, one each side.
- The tubes are cut and cauterised instead of being cut and tied. Cauterised tubes are much less likely to rejoin
- The small incision doesn’t require stitches.
- Special instruments have been designed just for this procedure.
- The NSV is relatively quick and minimally invasive, just 10 minutes
- we use special antiseptic for extra low infection rates
- testing is at a fertility clinic for clearance with just one sample in over 99% of men
- the anaesthetic instruments are super fine for virtually pain-free anaesthetic application

You will not feel any discomfort during your vasectomy as we use a micro-fine 31 gauge instrument to instil the rapid-acting local anaesthetic. How to Book Your Appointment
You do not need a GP referral, but you will need to have a phone consultation with Dr Acorn to check for any health issues and to make sure you are aware of all the considerations required for making a fully informed decision in asking for permanent contraception
It is really helpful if you can have already decided on a preferred date for your operation prior to making contact (operating is ALWAYS on Monday afternoons and Wednesday mornings and the waiting list is usually around 4-6 weeks
Once the date has been agreed, Dr Acorn or his assistant will do the telephone consultation
During your telephone consultation we will talk through the permanence of vasectomy and its implications as well as the potential complications. We will answer your questions and finalise your booking.You will then need to provide your name, DOB, address and email address and pay a deposit.
You will receive an email that confirms your appointment and gives information about the preparation for your operation.
You will need to have made your full payment at least 2 weeks prior. Turn up for your operation. If you have an office job, you can return to work the next day!
On the day of your operation you will be given information for arranging a post operative semen analysis to be done approximately 16 weeks after.
